The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) is the world’s most recognised theatre company specialising in the presentation of Shakespeare in a contemporary context and highlighting his work’s relevance to modern society. In 2016, the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death, Dulwich College International established a formal relationship with the Royal Shakespeare Company Education Department. Every year, the RSC will spend a week working with students at all DCI schools, create a live broadcast of one of their plays, provide training for staff to deliver Shakespeare units in the style of RSC and organise a festival in one of the Dulwich schools.
Dulwich College Yangon gained International Baccalaureate (IB) candidacy status last June, this will now allow the College to apply to become an authorized IB world school. Several other Dulwich Colleges currently offer the IB Diploma programme (IBDP), including Dulwich College (Singapore) and Dulwich College (Shanghai). The IB results from the group are extremely impressive and the group are proud to announce that IB students at Dulwich College International schools across Asia have achieved another year of outstanding results. Eight students at Dulwich College International schools achieved perfect scores of 45 points, an incredible achievement considering that each year only a few hundred students worldwide accomplish such a feat.
The average score at our schools in China was 37.6 out of 45, well above the world average of 29.8. Despite the rigour of the IB Diploma Programme, an impressive 29% of all our students attained 40 points or more. Two out of three Dulwich College International students taking Mandarin exams also attained perfect individual marks of 7, demonstrating the strength of our pioneering Mandarin curriculum. While these are no doubt inspiring successes, we are equally delighted that there was a 100% passing rate for those who entered the full diploma.
Dulwich College Yangon Star City plans to run the IB for the students in Year 12 and Year 13, although we are still going through the authorization process. The IBDP is a prestigious programme, which consists of a wide range of subjects. Students chose six of these subjects (including a science, art subject and a language). Students will also complete a 4000 word extended essay on a subject that they have chosen, take part in different activities as part of creativity, service and action (CAS) and complete an essay and presentation on theory of knowledge (TOK). The programme allows students to access a wide curriculum, and whilst being academically rigorous also promotes the development of young people who have skills, which will equip them for the world they are entering into.
The subjects that the Year 9 students will shortly pick at IGCSE will link with subjects offered in the IB Diploma programme
